Turnaround for Children began its work in Washington, D.C. in 2010, launching partnerships with three schools. Since that time, we have worked with both district and charter schools, and collaborated with D.C. Public Schools to help more classrooms and schools become trauma-informed. During the 2016-17 school year, we are partnering with four schools in the District, serving nearly 1,500 students and over 200 teachers and staff.
- From spring 2015 to spring 2016 Turnaround partner schools increased their scores on the school district’s “Phase 1 climate walk-through” measure by an average of 32 points
- By spring 2016 suspensions had decreased by over 70% at Houston Elementary
- From spring 2015 to spring 2016 school staff’s positive views of leadership increased from 0% to 69% at Houston Elementary, a first-year partner school
